How to Fix August Wi-Fi Smart Lock Wi-Fi Connectivity Issues

In this guide, I will share some solutions to fix the Wi-Fi connectivity issues on August smart locks.

Quick Answer

To troubleshoot your August Smart Lock when it keeps disconnecting from Wi-Fi, or it isn’t connecting to Wi-Fi, follow these steps:

  • Remove the batteries from the safety for 60 seconds.
  • Check the Wi-Fi password in the August app.
  • Bring the router close to the lock.
  • Power cycle your Wi-Fi router.
  • Reset your lock.

If you are getting a “Server Unavailable” or “Lock Unavailable” error in the August app, you don’t need to do anything! This error is because of server issues, and shall be fixed on its own when the servers are back online.

August Wi-Fi Smart Locks are great gadgets as users can easily set them up and run without needing any Wi-Fi bridge.

1. Power Cycle the Lock

Power cycling will soft reset your smart lock, which might solve the Wi-Fi connectivity issue.

Here’s how to power cycle your August Smart Lock:

  • Remove the batteries from your lock.
  • Wait for 60 seconds before reinstalling the batteries again.

After you install the batteries back in, check whether the Wi-Fi connectivity issues are resolved.

2. Check Wi-Fi Signal Strength

The first thing to check when your August lock keeps losing connection is the Wi-Fi signal strength at the location where your lock is installed.

Because August’s Wi-Fi smart lock directly connects with your router, it is essential to ensure that it receives stable signals.

You can check the Wi-Fi signal strength at your lock location on your smartphone in the August app under Wi-Fi settings.

If the signal strength is weak, you’d need to bring the router close to the lock or install a Wi-Fi extender.

3. Double Check Wi-Fi Password in August App

While this might seem obvious, entering a wrong password can be the major culprit preventing your August Smart lock from connecting to Wi-Fi.

Secondly, your August lock won’t notify you if you have entered a wrong password; it won’t simply connect.

Also, if you have recently changed the Wi-Fi password but not updated it in the August app, your lock would disconnect from the Wi-Fi.

So, ensure that you have entered the correct Wi-Fi password while setting up your smart lock, and carefully look for capital words, symbols and numbers.

4. Power Cycle Router

Perhaps, the issue is not with your August Smart Lock but your Wi-Fi router.

To check that your Wi-Fi is working, test it on your smartphone or another device.

If it isn’t working, then reset your router. Here’s how to do that:

  • Turn off your router and unplug it from the power source.
  • Keep it unplugged for 60 seconds before plugging it back in.
  • Turn it On again.

Hopefully, after the reset, you should be able to connect your smart lock to your Wi-Fi without any issue.

If you still have an issue, move on to the next solution.
